I doubt that anyone who has visited Grange Road and Charing Cross in Birkenhead over the last few months has failed to notice the work being undertaken.

Indeed, access to the area has been an utter nightmare for motorists, and confusing and often dangerous for pedestrians given restricted crossing facilities.

On the face of it, doubtless the goal is to complete as quickly as possible as suggested by the number of high-vis clad staff on site.

I say staff, because only a very small proportion appear to be actually working at any one time (are the majority all foremen/managers etc) - albeit they appear to be providing a boost for various food suppliers nearby.

Surprisingly there appears to be no concern from the contractors - could it be that the profit margin of the contract is so large that they don't need to worry?

Perhaps if it was more efficient, savings might be made to fund other improvements in the Wirral?

But seriously, this was meant to boost Grange Road and the Pyramids, yet the longer it goes on, the more likely customers will decide to avoid the hassle and shop elsewhere, and we all know that if they do so, then they will be less inclined to return.

Time to get a move on!
