HAVING just read the article on the proposed cycle lane from Birkenhead to Liscard, I was stunned.
After the completion of the Fender Way cycle lane I have only ever seen a cyclist twice . . . and they were on the pavement!
Cyclist are that used to riding on pavements that they can't break the habit. And why is that? well, because the police let them.
With this proposal they will let cyclist ride in the midst of pedestrians in Liscard precinct, well they do that anyway all ready.
I saw a police van slowly cruising down the pedestrian walkway when a cyclist approached it coming the opposite way the police van never even lowered its window.
What message does this send out?
Every morning I walk down the promenade from Sandon to St Elmo steps and at least once a week I have to make way for a car, and when the fishing is good there are cars parked all over the place and I have seen a police car just drive past totally oblivious.
The fact that they are parked there means they have driven through no entry signs, and their insurance is invalid, but the police have nothing to do with these cars even though these drivers are breaking the law and the police are paid to uphold the law in every aspect and not to cherry pick which laws to police.
I suppose it has to rub off on you, I know now that I will treat the police with the same amount of contempt that they treat the public.
This council is very free with other people's money.
