THERE have been a lot of letters recently on this page from readers vehemently opposed to the recently introduced 20mph speed limit in the suburbs by Wirral Council.
I would just like to take the other view and speak up for those who have been bereaved by losing a loved one under the wheels of a speeding motorist - having seen firsthand how the killing of a youngster can destroy a family.
Unfortunately, these new limits will be ignored as policing is now virtually non-existent for all types of crime here in the UK - with currently 95% of crime going unsolved & unpunished.
I grew up watching films at the Saturday afternoon matinee about the Wild West & now I live in it.
Here in leafy Bromborough, I can see everyday cars parked on double yellow lines and pavements, non-disabled motorists parking in disabled parking bays, vehicles going through red lights, motorists using mobile phones while driving and cyclists riding on the pavement.
I could go but this is just to underline my point that motorists abiding by the 20mph rule is sadly a pipe dream. Just stand by the graveyard in Eastham Village and watch them speed through.
