THE Wallasey Association's Sheppick Cup was won by Moreton RBL in an exciting and close run final against Poulton at Quarry Viking's Bowling Club on Thursday.
Both teams had six winners in the match but Moreton just edged a 12 point win with Harold Easdown their star of the night with a brilliant 21-04 victory. When Moreton won five of the first six games it looked all over but the Poulton team fought back and at the end it was a relieved Moreton RBL Captain, Ian Kendrick, who was presented with the Cup by the Association chairman Keith Etches.
The final of the Harold Jones Trophy is being played at the Magazine Bowling Club this Thursday, May 26. The match has the usual 6.30pm start and is between Hoylake Central and near neighbours, West Kirby Victoria.
The qualifying rounds of the Merseyside Merit were played last weekend and the final of this Tournament is on Saturday, 28th May at Upton Victory Hall's green with play getting underway at 11am.
Also taking place on this day are the semi final and the final of the Bebington League's George O'Neill Team Pairs Tournament.
This is being played on the Albany Bowling Club green and play here starts at 1pm.
In the Birkenhead and District League division one; four teams, Heswall, Tixall, Gladstone and West Kirby Victoria, have won all their games and head the way. In the second division Upton Victory Hall are still undefeated as are ESWA in Division three. Cammell Laird 'B' are the early leaders in division four.
In division one of the Afternoon League last year's winners, Higher Tranmere, are already in first place despite having had to play two of their closest rivals.
In division two Higher Tranmere 'B' have won all their matches and lead the way while undefeated Bromborough Pool head the third division.
Birkenhead Park SC ‘B’ have taken an early lead in division four.
In the Wallasey League division one; last year's winners, West Kirby Victoria, are being pressed very hard by Queens Royal.
In division two Wallasey RBL and Liscard have virtually the same number of points while Marine Park have established an early lead in the third division.
The early leaders in the Bebington League 'A' division are Gladstone, Oxton and Albany. In the 'B' division four teams, West Kirby Park, Arno, Upton and Bromborough Pool, have the same number of points, however the West Kirby team have won all their games.
Pensby 'B' are undefeated in the 'C' division with a series of dominant wins.
