BUDDING young golfers from Wirral will get the chance to hone their fledgling skills on their own, dedicated course from next week.

The new Club Tri-Golf facility at Kings Parade in New Brighton is being officially opened this Wednesday, May 18, at 1pm.

Tri-Golf is a specially-adapted version of the game aimed at encouraging younger players to take up the sport. The principle of the game is the same, but of course the yardage of the course is a lot shorter and players will use plastic clubs and rubber balls.

Open throughout the summer, the club is split into three different age groups – aes five and six; seven to nine and nine to 11.

Youngsters, who pay £10 a year to sign up as members of the club, will not only get a discount on playing the course (£1 per visit, compared to £2.10 for non-members) but they also get the opportunity to receive professional help with their game from PGA coaches.

As well as Tri-Golf itself, the new club at New Brighton also has an 18-hole crazy golf course, nine-hole pitch ‘n’ putt, tennis courts and bowling greens.

Mike Round, from the Golf Foundation charity which has helped develop Tri-Golf amongst primary school age children in Britain, said: “Around 750,000 young children across the British Isles each year get a taste of golf through Tri-Golf.

“It really has broken new ground and demonstrated how golf can be delivered through fun-based activity sessions involving large groups of youngsters. It also encourages more girls to get involved in the sport.

“This new facility will give Wirral kids the chance to keep working on their game outside of school as well as giving them the perfect excuse to be outside taking part in a fulfilling activity during their long summer break.”
