CHESHIRE face a showdown against Lancashire at Macclesfield on Saturday to decide the winners of the Northern Group of the County Championship.

The home county chalked up their second win in two outings against Warwickshire at Coventry at the weekend.

It finished 36-15. Lancashire accounted for Yorkshire 28-15 at Fylde.

The winners on Saturday will go on to feature in the Championship final at Twickenham seven days later against the Southern winners to decide who takes the Bill Beaumont Cup.

There was no joy for local representatives in recent County competition finals at Lymm.

Anselmians were on the wrong side of a 51-22 score against Altrincham Kersal in the Vase whilst Prenton had to settle for just a converted try in a 7-39 reverse at the hands of Crewe and Nantwich in the Plate.

Meanwhile Birkenhead Park will still have their derbies with Cheshire rivals Chester next season in National Three North.

Chester just failed 14-16 away to Sheffield Tigers last Saturday in a play-off for promotion to National Two North.

The season is now virtually over but the Caldy Sevens will be held at Caldy Rugby Club, on Sunday, May 29.
