IT was double delight for Premier Division champions Euro Wirral at Cammell Laird on Sunday evening after they claimed the Wirral Sunday League's Pyke Cup for the first time following a 3-2 victory over third placed Sportsmans Arms.
Since joining the WSL four years ago, Paul Hughes's side have now won four successive league titles, and Sunday's Pyke Cup success was the icing on the cake for the Rock Ferry outfit.
Craig Griffiths and Karl Graham bossed the show in midfield as Euro dominated the first half, and took advantage of slip-shod play by Sports, with a three goal blast which left their opponents with a mountain to climb.
John Strange struck twice and Paul McKay also found the net as the champions threatened to run riot. Sports tightened up after the interval, and came back into the game after Kevin Oates Jnr reduced the deficit via a well struck penalty on 68 minutes.
Both sides then enjoyed spells of possession, but the scoreline remained unaffected, until a fine John Gann header made it 3-2 with a minute remaining.
On Friday evening Neston retained the Martin Caulfield Junior Cup after they overcame Division Two title rivals The George, 3-1.
Inspired by the excellent Craig Diable, and with Richie Hughes in dominant form at the back, the first-half belonged to Neston who made the most of their chances and went 3-0 up with goals from Mark Liu, Dave Forbes and Lee Dunbar.
After the break, The George came more into the game, and skipper Mike Walker plundered the goal of the game, after he let fly from fully 20 yards.
Walker then deputised in goal after the 'keeper dislocated a finger, and kept the scoreline down with two top drawer saves.
Young Mark Owens was another star performer for the beaten finalists.
Neston had further cause for celebration on Sunday, after they lifted the Division Two title, but had Colin Thornley to thank for two penalty saves, before two goal Dave Forbes and Jimmy Orr sparked a 3-0 victory.
Consistent performers, The George, finished a point in arrears of the champions, and secured promotion after they overcame Sheridans Utd. 4-1.
In Division One, Railway Meols finished on a high after they won 2-1 at newly crowned champions, Neston Nomads. Andy Wainwright bagged both goals for the winners.
Kev Willaims netted Nomads' consolation.
Elsewhere, Kent FC rounded off their Premier Division campaign on a winning note, and cemented a respectable fourth place finish, after a Mike Rosario effort clinched a 1-0 decision over runners-up, Prenton Park.
Premier Division club, MSC Eastham are looking to strengthen their playing staff next season, and invite interest from experienced players to contact the club Secretary, Paul Gee as early as possible. Telephone: 07944 968 599.
