THE Premier Division title battle in the Houlihan's Birkenhead Sunday League went down to the last day of the season, with the tie between Queens Park and Dock FC deciding the outcome.
In a tight opening there were few chances, however John Johnson was the first to pounce on the loose ball following a defensive error, to put the Queens into an early lead.
Dock regrouped and drew level through Jamie Kenyon, but the game turned when Dock were reduced to ten men following a late challenge.
Queens took full advantage and went back in front before half time thanks to a Steve Abbott header.
Although Dock remained in the game for a period after the restart, further second-half goals from James Atherton and Anthony Gardner eventually gave Queens Park a comfortable 4-1 scoreline and they were crowned Premier Division Champions.
The only other Premier Division action saw Bidston Hotel (Billy New 2, Derek Taylor, Liam Casey) win 4-3 at Heygarth FC (Andy Grimes 2, Jon Squirrell).
In the final Youth Division match of the season, Ashville Panthers secured runners-up spot by beating Ashville Youth 4-3, with two goals each from Danny Amis and Leon Jones.
Midweek action saw Stirrup Sports & Social win their second Cup Final in a week; this time defeating Rock Ferry Social in the final of the Tony Houlihan Memorial Challenge Cup.
The only goal of the game was a great first-half strike from Paul Devey, his 21st goal of the season.
Stirrup held onto their lead comfortably before going up to receive the cup.
