CAMMELL Laird 1907 FC got back to winning ways in the North West Counties First Division South with an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Market Drayton Town in a performance that saw a brilliant team display missing in recent fixtures.
A solid defence supported the creative midfield, who provided many chances for the hard working forwards, and keeper Josh Brooks ensured a clean sheet was intact on the rare occasion Town threatened.
Opening exchanges were fairly even until the 17th minute when Jamie Eaton finished off a flowing move with an excellent volley that gave keeper Matt Holmes no chance.
Two more well constructed openings were missed before the visitors were reduced to ten men and Lairds took full advantage as Jordan Dilworth made it 2-0 with a fine finish and a soaring header by Jamie Leyland was powered home from an excellent cross in the 45th minute to give Lairds a 3-0 half time lead.
A dominant second half saw Haydn Cooper, Joel Whalley, Eaton and Rory Aldis dictating play and Cooper scored the goal of the day when dispossessing a defender and dribbling past two more before beating the keeper with ease to make it 4-0 after 56 minutes.
Substitutes Ellis Jones and Tom Haynes added fresh impetus when entering the fray and man of the match Aldis completed the nap hand in the 78th minute when converting a penalty which ensured a well earned three points.
No fixture next Saturday but Lairds entertain Warrington Town in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup on Tuesday, December 10 with a 7.45pm kick off and then they are away to Eccleshall in a league game on Saturday, December 14 with a 3pm kick off.
