TRANMERE have sunk to 22nd in the League Two table following a 2-0 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon.
Goals from Matty Stevens and Omar Bugiel took the Dons up to seventh in the table as struggling Rovers suffered their second defeat in a week leaving them just four points above the relegation zone.
In a frantic opening Kristian Dennis twice came close to giving the home side the lead while Luke McGee denied James Ball at the other end.
Dennis was involved again in the 19th minute, firing narrowly wide from close range after a nice passing move from Tranmere.
But it was the Dons who went ahead eight minutes before the break when Stevens steered home Callum Maycock’s cross from close range.
Jordan Turnbull had a glorious chance to pull Rovers level before half-time, only to turn the ball over the bar when it seemed easier to score.
The visitors doubled their lead seven minutes after the break when Bugiel nodded home James Tilley’s cross to seal the victory and pile more pressure on Tranmere boss Nigel Adkins.
