TRANMERE goalkeeper Joe Murphy is relishing another crack at reaching Wembley after Rovers reached the last 32 of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

Rovers beat Stockport County 2-0 at Edgerley Park to join the Hatters in the knockout stages where they could now meet the likes of Wrexham, Bolton and Blackpool.

Rovers took the lead in the 21st minute when Kristian Dennis ran on to a through ball from Tom Davies to score against his former club.

Tranmere doubled their lead six minutes before half time when Connor Jennings squared from the right for Josh Hawkes to tap in from close range.

The second half saw Rovers ring the changes and the visitors were indebted to veteran keeper Murphy who made a number of outstanding saves and ensure Tranmere progress to the last 32.

Murphy, 43, said: "I've been lucky enough to get to the final twice, once with Scunthorpe and lost and when we lost to Sunderland in the empty stadium and it was great to be a part of that.

"It's great for the clubs and the fans and it gets interesting now we're in the next round."

Rovers began the competition with a 3-1 home defeat to Everton's U21 side but since then group wins against Accrington and Stockport have seen them through to the next stage.

"I was disappointed with the Everton result because I thought we did quite well," said Murphy. "To concede three goals in four or five minutes was disappointing but we've had two good results to back that including one against a good Stockport side.

"It's great for clubs like ourselves to do well and it's a chance to get to Wembley, Tranmere's second home, so we'll try our best to tick the rounds off."

Tranmere travel to Cheltenham Town in Sky Bet League Two on Friday evening for a 7.45pm kick off.
