AN immaculate one minute silence was observed by Cammell Laird 1907 FC Reserves and their opponents Chester Nomads before their West Cheshire League 2nd division fixture in respect of Remembrance Sunday and those who fell in defence of our country.

An entertaining fixture then ensued with both teams attempting to gain the upper hand, but with a depleted squad Lairds took time to gain momentum.

A blatant foul after 20 minutes meant Nomads were reduced to ten men and ten minutes later Lairds went ahead with a well taken goal by Kieran Hughes.

Solid defence by the visitors and excellent goalkeeping prevented any further goals before the break.

On the restart Lairds continued to press, but again Nomads provided stiff opposition to thwart them, with their keeper making a number of fine saves before both Ellis Jones and Kieran Hughes with his second goal put the game beyond any comeback.

Lairds remain seventh in the division with games in hand over all above them and they remain a threat for promotion.

Next up for Lairds are Hooton FC away on Saturday, November 16 with a 3pm kick off.

The U23s in the 3rd division recorded a great 6-1 reversal of new team Willaston as they ran out 6-1 winners, with Jack Gordon netting a fine hat-trick and Kyle Bennett, Teddy Galer and Dennis Baker all firing home singles in a superb team effort to remain in the top half of the division.

Next fixture is home to Capenhurst Villa reserves on Saturday, November 16 with a 3pm kick off.
