SATURDAY heralded the third round of the Cheshire County FA Amateur Cup, which saw three Go2Day West Cheshire League sides negotiate their passage to the last eight of the competition.

Division Two side Cammell Laird 1907 Res., merited special praise, after they curtailed the interests of Waggon & Horses. An Adam Larway hat-trick was supplemented by a Kieran Hughes double and a Luke Burns effort, as the Shipbuilders cruised to a 6-1 victory.

In the all West Cheshire affair, it was a thumbs up for Chester Nomads who had Cam Clark and Scott Evans on the mark in Saturday’s 2-1 eclipse of Division One rivals, Helsby, who scored through James Anderson.

Sadly it was an untimely exit for West Kirby who suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Dukinfield Town but fellow Division Two outfit Mallaby, battled hard to lower the flag of cup holders, Knutsford. The game finished 1-1 before Luke Cullen’s side emerged 4-3 victors on penalties, highlighted by two smart saves from keeper, Tom Plowman.

Sutton Rangers beat West Kirby Res. 4-2 and maintained their two point advantage at the top of Division Three. Jude Keith and Joel West were on the mark for the visitors, while nearest rivals, Neston Nomads U23s, maintained interest, after Sam Hayley, Adam Matthews and Ollie Price shared the goals which secured a 3-0 result over Cammell Laird 1907 U23s.

In contrast, a solitary effort from Harry Ley was enough for basement outfit, Maghull U23s, to get the nod over Shaftesbury, but a goal from Robbie Abelwhite failed to prevent AFC Knowsley U23s from going down 3-1 at third placed challengers, Sefton Park Rangers, whose marksmen were Bradley O’Brien, Simeon Somefun and Brandon O’Keefe.

Previous leaders, Christleton, scored through Euan McKay, but forfeited ground and dropped to fourth place, following a 1-1 stalemate with Heswall U23’s who had Thomas Davies in response.

Great Sutton’s 7-1 win at Ellesmere Port Town U23’s on Friday evening featured efforts from Leo Jones (3), Liam McCrellis, Sam Bonner, Dylan Cotgrave and an own goal. Ben Sweeney scored for the Port.

Saturday’s Youth Division action saw a single strike from Mossley Hill Ath.’s Charlie Kenny disrupt the title ambitions of second placed Helsby, and that result enabled leaders, Athletico Blues to open up a five point lead at the top, after Baden Clarendon, Finn McGovern and Luke Parry found the net in a narrow 3-2 victory over South Liverpool, whose scorers were Ollie Cantwell and Josh Whewell.

90 minutes failed to produce a goal between AFC Knowsley and Maghull but hitting the target proved to be no problem for Hooton, who savoured a 4-1 result over Newton SGA, thanks to efforts from Patrick Tabiner, Carl Lidgett, Roman Kenny and James Grahame. The visitors replied through Muneer Mbarak.
