CALDY lost their opening home match of the season 21-26 against Cambridge but the coaching staff can take some positives for the upcoming games.
It was Caldy who took the early initiative and were in front on the seventh minute when Ollie Hearn was able to get the final touch from the driving maul.
The game was extremely tight over the next quarter with both sides trying to fix the errors that saw each team lose their opening games of the season.
Two penalties from Tom Curtis extended Caldy’s lead on the half hour mark, however, this seemed to spark the visitors into action with two quick tries before the break.
The first from Kayde Silvester who completed a good flowing move that cut through the Caldy defence. The second came from Jared Cardew. The flanker finished off the move after a great run from Rory Dawson.
In the second half Caldy started the better of the two teams with Curtis again closing the gap to just five points but a Ben Brownlee try off the back of the scrum put Cambridge's advantage to more than two scores going into the final quarter hour.
A flurry of changes from the Caldy bench including debutants from the club's production line gave the game more of a flow and a great move from Lewis Barker opened the space for Hearn to score his second of the game.
The second consecutive defeat was not what Caldy needed but Director of Rugby Gareth Davies said he hoped the situation would be quickly rectified.
Caldy’s next game is away at newly promoted Chinnor. The National 1 Champions have had a good start to the season with seven points from their opening two games of the season.
