WITH a change in the backs who had not played together previously, Wirral were unable to break through the Stockport defence who quickly swept into the lead in the fourth minute.
Wirral countered and had opportunities to score but a strong Stockport defence was on hand to stop any progress by Wirral in the next 20 minutes.
Gradually Stockport pressure took control to score with two more tries and a penalty before half time to have a commanding 20-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw Wirral make changes to their team but they could not make the necessary progress downfield. However, a cross- kick well taken and then a 90m interception increased the Stockport lead to 41-0.
Wirral worked hard at their game and a dropped ball enabled Tom Akehurst to pick up and scoot in from 20m to get the away side on the score sheet and in the final minutes of the game the home side pressed their advantage but only managed one more try.
A tired Wirral team welcomed the final whistle as this had been their worst result at Stockport for many years. Next week Wirral are at home to Leek with a 3pm kick off.
