THE Wirral derby fixture between Ashville FC and Cammell Laird 1907 FC in the North West Counties First Division South saw Villa win the local bragging rights with a 3-2 comeback win.

Dominating midfield through Haydn Cooper and Jamie Leyland with Jack Darlington getting the better of the away defence, the hosts went ahead after 16 minutes when Ben Glover finished off a great attack and then on 27 minutes Lairds increased their lead as Joe Brandon netted at the far post following some excellent build up play.

All Laird's good work from the first half was undone by Ashville within seven minutes of the second period as Tom Hewlett scored within a minute and Josh Maldon added the equaliser in the 52nd minute in a whirlwind start.

Chances then went begging for both sides as the game ebbed and flowed and Lairds could have had a penalty following a foul on substitute Ben Wood, but the referee applied a yellow card for alleged simulation instead.

Then with only six minutes remaining Hewlett bagged his second of the game to put Ashville ahead as he was left totally unmarked to seal a 3-2 victory.

Lairds next fixture is away to the divisional leaders Stafford Town on Saturday, September 28 with a 3pm kick off.

Better news for the reserves as they overwhelmed Runcorn Sports reserves with a great team performance as they ran out 12-0 winners as Kieran Hughes netted a fantastic six times. Adam Larway then bagged a hat-trick, with Josh Hulmston, Connor Hughes and Leon Murray all scoring singles as they remain in the top six of the West Cheshire League Second Division. Next fixture is home at the KRCT Stadium on Saturday, September 28 versus pointless Aintree Villa reserves

Despite a Brandon Gordon goal Lairds U-23's lost an even affair away to Willaston in a 2-1 defeat, but play Rainhill Town reserves next week who are only two points above them in the league.
