IN the Cheshire Cup, Division 2 side Wirral Radio pulled off the shock of the round as they sent Premier Division giants Woodchurch crashing out with a stunning 3-2 victory.

Radio raced into an early lead, with Dan O’Halloran the star of the show, netting twice. O’Halloran's first saw him poke home from close range after a well worked team move, Lewis McKnight added to Woodchurch's woes, smashing home a 20-yard free-kick to make it 2-0 before O’Halloran doubled his tally with a precise header at the back post to make it 3-0. Woodchurch clawed two goals back. However, their late surge wasn’t enough, as Wirral Radio held firm to secure a famous win and knock the Premier Division heavyweights out of the competition.

A good day for the Birkenhead Sunday League as six teams progressed at the expense of teams from other leagues. Great Float cruised to a 3-1 victory over AFC Prestbury, with Francis Wood, Tom Harris and Jason Bull all finding the net for “The Float”.

KRCT Bidston’s Man of the Match Dava Bowe stole the spotlight, scoring all four goals in a superb individual performance as “The Biddy” won 4-1 to knock out Audlem FC.

Queens Park edged Cooper Buckley FC in a thrilling 4-3 encounter, Harvey Sample bagging a brace, with Louis Wilmington and Tom Black also getting on the scoresheet.

Whitby Rangers accounted for Runcorn Sports with a brilliant 4-0 win. Matty Vickers, Tom Murray, Mike Ellery and Sam Cooper all scored for Whitby.

Bushell Athletic dismantled Northenden FC 6-1, thanks to doubles from Ben Glover and Leon Jones along with goals from Dotty Bolton and Sam Parker. Dock made light work of Corsair FC winning by the same 6-1 score line, Adam Lea, Hayden Cooper, Zac Catesby, Peter Morgan, Jay Harvey and Joe Brandon all netted for Dock.

Wellington FC secured a hard fought 1-0 win away at Rig Move benefiting from an own goal while Parkgate St Germain had Eathan Davies on target but were eliminated by AFC Carnforth, losing 2-1.

Ryan “Giggsy” Atherton Premier Division

Early pace setters Cheshire Cheese and Beechwood continued their impressive starts to the season, both securing important wins to establish a five-point lead at the top of the table with Beechwood top on goal difference after an emphatic 5-1 victory away at Rock Ferry. Mitch Duggan led the way with a double while Tom Quinn and Morgan Woods also added to the tally along with a Rock Ferry own goal. Dylan Roche netted Rock Ferry's consolation goal.

Meanwhile Cheshire Cheese showed great resilience after being reduced to ten men just one minute into their clash with Lancelyn. Despite the early setback, they regrouped to take the points in a narrow 1-0 win over Lancelyn thanks to an Anthony Evans goal.

Maxwell’s Barber Division One

Fender continued their great start to the season with a 4-3 win against Neston Nomads making it a fourth win on the bounce. Ashely Power hit a brace while the in-form Billy Rainbow and Carl Navarro also scored. Neston hit back thanks to a Luke Blundell double, and a Dean Jones effort made for a nervous finish, but Fender held firm to stay top. Hot on their heels are Shaftsbury AFC who secured their third win thanks to an impressive 4-1 win against Lions FC. Carig Kenyon scored two with Bailey Onwueme and Calum Elliot also finding the net. Tom Poval scored the Lions lone consolation goal. Eagle & Stirrup sit third after dismantling AFC Saughall 7-1. Jack Gibson and Callum Jones both netted doubles, with Sean Heath, Stuart Davies, and Ben Ryan all adding goals. Ash Jamo scored AFC Saughall’s only goal.

Martin Gallier Project Division Two

Catons FC showed improvement but fell short in a 3-2 defeat to Oxton Celtic. Sam Bonner and Stephen Teale found the net for Catons, but goals from Chris Davies, Joe Deno and Harry Sutton sealed the win for Oxton Celtic.

League leaders Eastham Rangers maintained their position at the top with a hard fought 2-0 win against Poulton Victoria S&S. Kieran Hodgson and Harry Huggins provided the crucial goals. In the divisions most emphatic result, Upton Town thrashed Barker 8-2 in a dominant display Despite nearly missing the game due to self-inflicted illness Gareth Myers managed to drag himself to football in the nick of time to score two rare goals! Myers was joined on the score sheet by Stuart Hardman and Brendon Doherty also both bagging doubles, Will O’Leary rounded off the scoring for Upton Town. Mark Munt and Jack Nutty scored consolation goals for Barkers.

Woodchurch Rovers took maximum points with a good 2-0 win against Feeney’s, Ryan Thompson and Robbie Ellis were the bagsmen. At the other end of the table Upton Willows got their season up and running with a fine 3-0 win against Higher Bebington Kelma. Dean Wylde, Lewi Ward and Sam Shannon all scoring for Willows.

The 97 Division Three

The big game of the day in Division 4 saw early leaders AFC Raeburn battle back to claim a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Athletic VH. It was Athletic VH who stormed to a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half with goals from Cam Meadows, Ross Meadows, and Sam Boyd. However, Raeburn responded with a dramatic second-half comeback, as Jack Hoijord netted twice, and Adam Gunnery added another to secure a share of the spoils.

Elsewhere, MSC Eastham claimed a 3-1 victory over Victoria Colts, with Natas Asmonas, Jammie Duckers, and Andy Grice all on target. Ryan Jones netted the lone goal for Victoria Colts.  North Wirral Saints earned a solid 2-0 win over West Kirby Wasps, with Ben Dunn and Sam Platt both finding the back of the net.

It was honours even between West Kirby United and AFC Tima, as they played out a 2-2 draw. Henry Martyn and Matty Murphy scored for West Kirby United, while Asad Shafiq and U. Jalo replied for Tima.

In a goal-fest, Fender Youth edged out AFC Rangers 5-4, with Chris Carress netting a brace and contributions from Shaun Anderson and Mark Fitzpatrick for Rangers in an entertaining clash
