A WIRRAL golfer has helped England Senior Women to a bronze medal at the European Team Championship.
Bromborough Golf Club's Caroline Berry finished tied-24th out of the 120-player field with England's Tracey Williamson finishing top of the leaderboard with an overall score of -2 across 36 holes.
England teammate Kerry Smith was just three shots back in tied-4th, Sally Shayler was tied-10th, Helen Lowe was tied-20th and Jackie Foster was tied-29th.
England’s impressive showing saw them take on Belgium in the quarter-finals on Thursday as they won 4-1 overall. They didn’t lose a single one of their five matches (three wins, two halves) to set up a semi-final against Switzerland.
Sadly the Swiss came out on top 3-2 on Friday, with Jackie Foster’s match with Evelyn Orley needing 20 holes to determine a winner, as the Swiss edged the contest.
Saturday saw the women beat Germany 3-2, with three matches going right to the death, to help England pick up the bronze medal.
England Senior Women's Captain Angela Jones said: "The team played great golf all week, qualifying in 1st place and beating both Belgium and Germany who had beaten us last year. It was a true team effort, we are all delighted with our bronze medals and also that all the women's and girls' teams have medalled in the Europeans this year."
