THERE was devastation at the vanEupen Arena as Vauxhall Motors exited the FA Trophy at the earliest stage following a penalty shoot out defeat to Newton Aycliffe.

The visitors were on the receiving end of a barrage of strikes from the Motors early on, saved only bytheir own woodwork and the impressive performance of goalkeeper James Pollard with two Kevin Ellison efforts cannoning off the bar.

Despite the onslaught of chances from Vauxhall the visitors did manage to force Ethan Gouldbourne into a goal line clearance after a deflected shot looked certain to nestle in the net.

Motors could only spurn their chances for so long however, and Newton opened the scoring on the cusp of half time against the run of play with Cole Kiernan slotting past a helpless Jack Atkinson after Jake Petitjean’s lofted pass beat the host's defensive line.

It took until the 77th minute for Motors to draw level through a superb strike by Jordan Wynne which flew into the top right corner on the half volley past Pollard

The score remained tied after the referee's final whistle which meant going straight to penalties.

Again, Vauxhall were the victims of their old enemy the woodwork as Jawad Jebrin's first spot kick hit the post.

Atkinson would then save their first penalty before a powerful conversion by Nick Rushton broke the net and forced a change of ends.

The delay failed to deter George Wood but did rattle goal scorer Jordan Wynne who was to be denied.

Wayne Whitfield would continue the hope for the visitors before Connor Rankin smashed his kick into the top corner.

It was not to be however as new signing Josh Quarless was denied and as a result Vauxhall Motors were knocked out with Newton Aycliffe winning 3-2 on penalties.
