NEW Brighton pulled off the shock result of the day in the Liverpool Competition Premier League as the bottom side beat Formby by two wickets.
The visitors made an early declaration on 163-5 off 35 overs but the decision backfired as the Rakers reached the target after 50 overs helped by an excellent unbeaten 89 from Damitha Silva.
Despite the win, New Brighton remain in the relegation zone alongside Birkenhead Park who lost heavily at title contenders Northern. Put into bat, the home side declared on 161-4 with Malinda Pushpakumara taking 3-51 before Park were bowled out for just 76.
Wallasey are fourth after they beat Newton le Willows in a thriller. Skipper Greg Beaver hit 77 as the hosts declared on 164-6 with the visitors looking on course for the win until Matthew Keogh (3-53) took the last wicket to fall with Newton 12 runs short of the target. Andrew Beaver took 4-26.
In Division Two, Caldy lost ground on the leaders after they were bundled out for just 53 by Northop Hall who reached the target off just 12 overs.
Parkfield Liscard recorded just their second win of the season with victory over Hightown St Mary's. Nauman Akram (7-42) and Jehan Yahathugoda (3-14) dismissed the visitors for 89 before the Wirral side completed a three wicket triumph.
