ASHVILLE FC have confirmed the signing of former Prestatyn Town midfielder Jono Cahill.

Cahill, who was captain at The Seasiders makes the switch to Ashville for the 2024/2025 season.

Prior to joining Prestatyn, Cahill played his football in Merseyside, albeit on the other side of the river with Waterloo GSOB, before captaining AFC Knowsley.

The 29-year-old midfielder captained the side through their incredible run from the bottom tier of the Cheshire League all the way to the top league with consecutive promotions.

The new signing said: “My bread and butter is winning the battles in midfield, breaking up play and making sure we don’t get played through”.

Cahill is manager Ste Scott’s second summer signing so far, alongside Mark Madden, with the midfielder saying he was won over by the new gaffer’s ambition and enthusiasm.

He said: “Scotty gave me a call to let me know he was interested in me coming down. His passion for what he wanted to achieve at Ashville came across and I resonated with what he expects from his team. Him and Glynn are embedding a never give up culture and I’m excited to be part of it."

Cahill has been training with the squad over the last couple of weeks and has been impressed with what he’s seen from the club so far.

He said: “I’ve been impressed with the quality of the pre-season sessions. All the lads have been really welcoming and there is a good buzz around pre-season so far.

“I’m a player that gives my all and leaves everything on the pitch so I hope that comes across in my game. I’m looking forward to pulling on the Ashville shirt and getting going with what I hope will be a successful season for the club."
