TOMMY Holmes has joined Vauxhall Motors FC as first team coach following his departure from Colwyn Bay FC.

Motors first team manager Danny Holmes did not have to look far when searching for characters to bolster his back-room staff as Tommy - known as 'Tosh' is his brother.

Tommy had most recently been assistant manager at Colwyn Bay where he helped oversee a league and cup double which saw the Welsh side promoted back to the Cymru Premier. He has also had spells at Conwy, Brymbo and Ruthin Town.

The 44-year-old will bring with him a wealth of experience having a coaching career spanning nine years.

As a player, Tommy began his career at Tranmere Rovers before joining TNS in 2000, where he played over 400 games during a successful 11 years.

Tommy said: “I’m really happy to join a top local club with a great history which is always looking to progress and improve each year. The facilities are up there with the best around. Great training options and first team pitch with the social aspect covered with the club house on site.”

Hailing from Wirral, it will be the first time Tosh has been exposed to the English football pyramid since leaving Tranmere Rovers in 2000.

The new first team coach added: “I’m excited for the new challenge ahead in the English system after playing and coaching in the Welsh set up for nearly 25 years.

Despite a long spell away from the English game, he is no stranger to members at the club having played alongside assistant manager Glenn Rule and goalkeeper coach Paul Singer.

Following the announcement, manager Danny said: “I trust Tosh with my life and if I need to be told something, as he has a lot in the past, he’s told me and been honest with me which is the type of people I want around me moving forward.

“Not only that his vast experience in his playing career and the character that he is, will help bring our group together because he’s a fantastic person and he is great to be around.”

“He also has fantastic training sessions which I feel will aid in bringing our team on a lot”.

Tommy will be alongside brother Danny in the dugout as attentions remain on a return for pre-season and a first friendly against The New Saints on July 5.
