WALLASEY'S Sumit Ruikar took his 300th Liverpool Competition wicket for the club on Saturday but it was not enough to overcome Premier League leaders Northern who won by four wickets at Moor Lane.

Batting first, the visitors declared on 169-9 off 64 overs with Harry Meehan (72) top scoring. Andrew Beaver then took 3-48 but Northern just got over the line in the last over of the match. 

New Brighton remain bottom and without a win after losing at home to champions Ormskirk. Damitha Silva (6-71) and Elliot Griffiths (3-25) did their job in restricting the visitors to a modest total of 132 all out but the hosts were bowled out for 100 in reply. 

Birkenhead Park got a welcome first win of the season after Malinda Pushpakumara (4-27) and Alex Harris (3-42) ran through Rainhill who were dismissed for 89 before the hosts sealed a six wicket win. 

In the Second Division, Caldy won the tightest game of the day after clinching a one wicket win over Ainsdale off the last ball of the contest. Earlier, the visitors had bowled Ainsdale out for 187 off 60 overs with Asiri Gamage (2-72) the pick of the bowlers. Gamage (63) then led the chase but it was left to Nathan Twidell to scramble the winning single in a thrilling finale. 

Parkfield Liscard suffered a bad defeat at Alder after they were bowled out for 62 off 23.4 overs. The hosts eased their way to a five wicket win.

There was plenty of cup action on Sunday but it was a bad day for the Wirral sides involved in the second round of the Cheshire Cup. 

Wallasey lost at Brooklands after they were bowled out for 101 while New Brighton were skittled for just 75 against Ellworth in reply to 217-8. 

Birkenhead Park did come close against Cheadle after posting 114 all out. In reply the hosts sneaked over the line with just one wicket remaining.
