CALDY lost their final Championship match of the season away against Nottingham at Lady Bay on Friday Night.
The match was delayed by nearly an hour as the ambulance was late and when the match did start it had a very end of season feeling to it.
With the score at 0-0 after the quarter hour mark, Caldy took the lead through a penalty from Lewis Barker and this put them on the front foot for the next 15 minutes. Caldy were unlucky not to extend the lead moments later with Nottingham getting lucky with some last ditch tackles.
However, on the half hour mark Nottingham found an extra gear with the first try of the evening through Ellis Mee who ran through three tackles to score.
With their tails up Nottingham were in again five minutes later when Mee turned provider for Harry Graham who raced in for the second.
A great phase saw a number of players involved which ended with Jack Stapley going over for a third try in 7 minutes.
The second half was incredibly tight after James Cherry scored the bonus point try after coming off the back of the maul to score.
Moments later Matt Gallagher slid in for what would turn out to be the last scoring points of the evening.
There were a number of chances but neither team could find a breakthrough and the game finished as it started with both sides looking forward to meeting each other again next season.
After Saturday afternoon's Championship results, Caldy finished tenth, 11 points clear of bottom placed Cambridge in the centenary season that started with the Premiership Cup.
Members and supporters can look forward to another season in the second tier with optimism.
