WALLASEY lost a low-scoring thriller at Rainford as the sun finally shone on the Love Lane Liverpool Competition.
Batting first, the visitors were in deep trouble at 56-7 until Harry Meehan (35) and Jack Leckey (17) fought back with a stand of 59 for the eighth wicket to take Wallasey to 118 all out. Sumit Ruikar (5-51) and Matthew Keogh (3-22) ensured a nervy chase but the hosts just got over the line for a two wicket win.
Damitha Silva (76) top scored for New Brighton as they posted 176 all out at Newton le Willows. Silva then took 3-83 off 21.3 overs but it was not to be as the home side sealed a four wicket win.
Jonathan Crofton hit 76 as Birkenhead Park were bowled out for 206 at Formby. The visitors were undone by an unbeaten century from Formby opener Ollie Sutton as the hosts won by six wickets.
In Division Two, Nauman Akram (4-36) and Jehan Yahathugoda (3-9) ensured Whitefield were bowled out for just 96 by Parkfield Liscard who wrapped up a five wicket win thanks mainly to Akram's unbeaten 57.
Caldy were dismissed for 122 by Norley Hall with Ryan Housley taking 7-21. Umega Chaturanga took 3-34 as the hosts eased to a six wicket win.
