CALDY secured a four try bonus point in a 93 point thriller at Hartpury College on Saturday afternoon almost guaranteeing they will not finish bottom of the table for the second season despite losing 57-36.
The home side raced out of the blocks scoring the opening try after three minutes when a well worked lineout and maul was scored by Harry Short before veteran winger Nick Royle scored down the wing.
Mike Austin, playing at scrum half for the home side, made his way through the Caldy backline and made space for Alex Morgan to score.
After the home side's number eight was sent to the sin bin, Caldy took advantage, scoring two tries in quick succession, first through Ollie Hearn and then Lewis Barker to bring the visitors to within two points.
With Hartpury back at full strength they stretched their lead again with Austin causing trouble for the Caldy backline once again.
Into the second half and Hartpury took the game away from Caldy scoring two quick tries from the break, first from Morgan and the second from Harry Bazalgette.
From a good line out Will Robinson scored after the maul went over the line.
Eadie scored again for Hartpury, which sealed the game for the hosts, although Caldy hit back through Matt Killcourse.
A try each for both sides with Ethan Hunt scoring for Hartpury and Ollie Wynn scored the 14th and final try of the afternoon.
After the match, coach Richard Vasey said that he was proud of the players and the game had an end of season feel to it with lots of mistakes from both sides.
Caldy play Cambridge next Saturday in the final home match of the season. A win will mean a tenth place finish in the Championship table.
