WIRRAL golfer Matthew Jordan admits performing so well in an Open on his home course has made this week the best of his life.
The Royal Liverpool member, who came through qualifying to secure a place in the field in Hoylake, has shone alongside the game’s elite.
Having made the cut, the 27-year-old carded a two-under-par 69 in his third round on Saturday to move to three under overall.
He has been backed throughout by a large and vocal following and the experience so far has been a memorable one.
“It’s been the best week of my life – so far,” said Jordan, who missed the cut in his only other Open appearance, at St Andrews last year.
“Obviously performing like I have and being up there has improved it a lot, but it’s probably come hand in hand.
“Whether I would’ve done this well without enjoying it so much and so much support, who knows, but so far it’s been an absolute amazing experience and one that I will never forget.”
Jordan endured a difficult start with a bogey at the first hole and he dropped another shot at the 13th but he finished strongly with four birdies in the final five holes.
He said: “Any time you birdie four of the last five coming in, it gives you a massive lift.
“No matter what the finish is, I just want to continue, to shoot a good score and be able to play like I have been doing over the last couple of days, because I’ve played great.”
