NEW Brighton remain bottom of the Love Lane Liverpool Competition Premier Division after a heavy defeat to title chasing Leigh.
As players dodged the showers sweeping across Merseyside, the visitors racked up an impressive 162-1 off just 20.4 overs before declaring and sticking the hosts in whereupon they collasped to 78 all out.
Title holders Wallasey fell to a sixth defeat of the season after they made 161-6 off 33.5 overs at Formby. The hosts proceeded to race to a seven wicket victory in reaching the target off just 18.2 overs.
Caldy are 14 points above the Division One relegation places after falling to a narrow defeat to leaders Newton le Willows. A brilliant spell from Caldy's Sachin Kumar Singh saw him take 7-37 as the visitors were dismissed for 119 off 31 overs. The hosts looked good for the win until a late order collapse was sparked by Lancashire's Jack Morley (6-27) and they were bowled out for 92.
Newton le Willows' win enabled them to build a 27 point lead over Birkenhead Park who were unable to complete their game at Highfield with the home side 115-8 when the rain came. Satyajeet Bachhav took 4-47.
In Division Two, Parkfield Liscard reached 152 all out against Fleetwood Hesketh with Sadeep Saputantrige (41) top scoring. The visitors had reached 34-1 when rain stopped play.
Irby's visit to Wavertree was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
