ON a pleasant Sunday morning in Birkenhead Park Hoylake Central's Bill Atkinson took full advantage of the of faster greens to take his first Flyers win for some time beating New Brighton Queens Royal's Eddie Dutton in the final.
Atkinson had already had two hard matches before just coming through another close game in the quarter finals against Liverpool's John Hignett Snr and then, to reach the final.
He had yet another struggle to get the better of West Kirby Victoria's John Harrison in the semi finals.
Dutton had been just a little too good for Queens Royal's Richard Bendrey in their quarter final game before he had to struggle to come through over previous winner Hoylake Central's Tommy Walker.
Atkinson took an early lead in the final and though Dutton pulled some of this back Atkinson held on to take the first prize and push himself up to a place in the Top Sixteen Finals Tournament which is taking place next Sunday morning.
