IT was a cool blustery morning in Birkenhead Park for this week's Winter Flyers but, thankfully, the rain held off.
The tournament was won by Port Sunlight Village and Works Nick Woodward who had his first win in the Flyers for quite some time.
In the final, he beat Cammell Laird's Peter Holian.
Though a long time regular at the Flyers Woodward had not managed to make many appearances before Christmas so it was good to see him back to winning ways.
In his quarter final game he beat Cammell Laird's John Squires and then he had another fairly comfortable win against Liverpool's John Hignett Snr in the semi final.
Meanwhile Holian had a somewhat more difficult run; he had a very good 21-11 win over Hawksbury's Paul Roberts in the quarters before he scraped through to the final after a very close battle with The Magazine's Andy Buchanan.
In the final Woodward maintained his good form and after a fairly even start he was able to pull away and take the first prize with a 21-14 win.

Quarter Finals: P. Holian 21, P. Roberts 11; A. Buchanan 21, C. Portis 10; J. Hignett Snr 21, E. Dutton 18; N. Woodward 21, J. Squires 11.
