ON yet another pleasant Sunday morning in Birkenhead Park Gladstone's Nigel Hughes was just a little too good for his opponents in this week's Flyers Bowls Tournament.
His opponent in the final, Cammell Laird's Peter McGhee, had played very well to get to this stage but he could not match Hughes' consistency.
Hughes was making only his second visit to the Flyers in this session, but showed no sign a lack of practise and had comfortable wins over Hoylake Central's Tommy Walker and New Brighton Quarry Viking's Eddie Dutton in his quarter final and semi final games.
On his way to the final McGhee had to beat two previous winners, New Brighton Quarry Viking's Ray Lynch in the quarter finals and then last week's winner, Tixall's Jamie Fitzpatrick, in the semis.
Despite McGhee's best efforts Hughes again had a comfortable 21-12 win to take the first prize.
Results:
Quarter Finals: P. McGhee 21, R. Lynch 20; J. Fitzpatrick 21, P. Holian 19; N. Hughes 21, T. Walker 10; E. Dutton 21, V. Williams 18.
Semi Finals: McGhee 21, Fitzpatrick15; Hughes 21, Dutton 12. Final: Hughes 21, McGhee 12.
