TIXALL'S Nigel Hughes was in dominant form in this week's Flyers Tournament in Birkenhead Park as he took his first win of this session beating his club mate at Tixall, last week's winner, Jamie Fitzpatrick.
This week there had been no overnight rain so the greens were drier and quicker on a cold but pleasant morning and Hughes took full advantage of the conditions to easily get through to the later stages of the competition.
He did not have things all his own way in both his quarter final or semi final matches against the consistent Peter Holian of Cammell Lairds and then John Hignett Snr over from Liverpool but he won both matches fairly comfortably.
Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick had a very good win over Ritchie Jamieson in his quarter final game and then he followed this with another good performance in the semis beating previous winner Anthony O'Neil who also plays for Tixall.
Though Fitzpatrick took the first couple of points in the final Hughes then put on a really superb display of bowls to sweep to a well deserved victory.
Results:
N. Hughes (Tixall) 21, P. Holian (Cammell Lairds) 16; J. Hignett Snr (Liverpool) 21, J. Edwards (Gladstone) 20; A. O'Neill (Tixall) 21, R. Hodgson (Upton Victory Hall) 10; J. Fitzpatrick (Tixall) 21, R. Jamieson (Heswall) 08.
