MOTORS achieved their first victory of pre-season as they beat Evostik North side Burscough 1-0 at Victoria Park.

On another warm day and on a bumpy, hard pitch, there was still some good football played by both sides.

Motors edged the first half with a couple of efforts both being denied by good goalkeeping from the Burscough shot-stopper as the sides went in at the interval with the scores level.

Nine substitutes were made by Motors boss Carl Macauley at half-time and it wasn't long before the changes paid dividend.

The deadlock was broken with just three minutes of the second half played as a slick through ball between the Burscough centre-backs was coolly converted underneath the onrushing goalkeeper by one of the trialists.

Burscough came close to equalising towards the end of the game but a powerful effort was tipped over the crossbar by Craig Ellison to maintain the visitors' lead.

Motors are next in action with a trip to Kirklands to play Cammell Laird this Saturday, July 27. Kick-off will be at 3pm.

On the following Tuesday, July 30, July, Bala Town are the visitors to Rivacre Park. 7.30pm kick-off.

Meanwhile it has been announced Karl Noon has agreed to remain with the Motormen.

Noon is in his second spell at Rivacre Park after rejoining in February 2013 from Warrington Town. He enjoyed a successful finish to last season making 13 appearances and scoring one goal.

Noon was with Liverpool as a youngster and went on to play for Prescot Cables, Southport, Bangor City (where he experienced European football in the UEFA Cup) before joining Motors in 2008.

Noon also played for Marine in the 2012/13 season.
