FOUR goals in the last ten minutes - including three in three minutes - saw Cammell Laird come from a goal behind to win 4-1 away to Bootle at the Delta Taxis Stadium.

Laird were without big experienced players and fielding a host of trialists given chances to impress.

But 15 minutes after kick-off, Bootle were awarded a penalty when their forward Tom Peterson was felled in the box under the challenge of Liam Hollett, the decision appearing a little harsh on the Laird’s defender.

After Peterson had dusted himself off, he stepped up and coolly slotted the penalty into the right hand side of the net with ‘keeper Kevin Atherton sprawling to the left.

Bootle had a host of half chances as Laird tried to settle and get the ball down and play.

However, opportunities of any sort were few and far between with their most likely threat coming through new signing Daley Woods, however the score at half time would see the Cammells trail by one goal to nil.

In the second half, Laird were much better and completely dominated proceedings and carved out a number of good chances, none of which were taken until 80th minute and then came the avalanche.

With the ball rarely in Laird's half, full back Freddy Potter won the ball.

He quickly released the ball to Sean Breen who found Jack McGowan who from the edge of the box dispatched a cool finish past the helpless goalkeeper.

Just two minutes later trialist Jamil Saleh showed good work in the centre of the park, drove forward and fed McGowan who again took one touch to control and one to dispatch another nonchalant finish past the young Bootle goalkeeper who wasn’t getting near the shot and Lairds were now in front.

Just 63 seconds elapsed before the Cammells made it 3-1, with trialist from Bootle Michael Young scoring the pick of the bunch.

Laird wrapped up the win with a fourth in stoppage time, Danny Smith tapping home into an empty net from five yards out.
