CREWS enjoyed superb conditions for the recent Hilbre and Star Class meetings on the Dee Estuary.

Six races were completed for each class and there was no disputing the overall winners.

Hirondelle sailed by Jemima Riley swept the board in the Hilbres with six wins from the six starts.

Bruce Watkin in Stella commanded in the Stars with four victories.

Overall results: Hilbres:-1. Hirondelle (Riley family) 5pts; 2.

Hioco (A.Mearns) 12pts; 3. Hicotee (P.Bramley) 21pts.

Stars: 1. Stella (B.Watkin) 6pts; 2. Jupiter (D.Mayhew) 9pts; 3. Cygnus (D.Smith) 15pts.

Martin Whittingham-Jones in Isador and John Burthem in Hawk won recent Falcon Class races with the series taken by Isador.

Several Marine Lake race series were completed last week. Marion Armstrong in Shocker posted two wins in the Fireflies and claimed the series.

It was a similar situation in the Albacores for Mike Hartley in Triggers Brush, in the Optimists for Charlie Ewing in Spikey and in the Solos for Martin Hartley in Solstice.

Neil Platt won twice in the GP 14’s with the series going to Steve Stratton in Misdemeanour.

Rob Graham and David Caldwell took Laser races with the series to Simon Johnson. Peter Skinner and Peter Bramley headed Illusion races with the series to Peter Williams.

Crews from West Kirby, Hoylake and Dee enjoyed an excellent get together on the West Hoyle Bank on Saturday.

Hoylake preceded the event with their annual Opera Class Hilbre race won narrowly by Steve Stratton aboard Fidelio ahead of the club Commodore Gavin Melling in La Tosca.

Liverpool Yacht Club/Tranmere Sailing Club had just three starters for their latest Summer Series race on the Mersey taken by Steve Harrison in Quattro.

Wallasey Yacht Club hosted a team event in Seabirds off New Brighton on Sunday.

Royal Mersey Yacht Club represented by Trevor Tansey and Peter Smith edged home by one point from Hoylake Sailing Club who had race winner Geoffrey Watt and Commodore Melling in command.
