YOUNG sailors made good use of the much-improved conditions as West Kirby Sailing Club staged an Open meeting for the Cadet class on the Marine Lake.

There was a 15-strong turn out and the best placed of the home contingent was Alex Colquitt crewed by Ella Marston in Speedbird II which was third overall.

South Cerney visitor Sophie Goodridge crewed by Hannah Goodridge claimed top prize in Aslan, counting two first and a second from the four races sailed.

They were just a point ahead of Black Otter from Royal Torbay which was sailed by Esme Jones and crewed by Eliza Jones. They enjoyed one win and two second places.

Overall results: Cadet Open: 1. Aslam (Sophie & Hannah Goodridge, South Cerney SC) 4pts; 2. Black Otter (Esme & Eliza Jones, Royal Torbay YC) 5pts; 3. Speedbird II (Alex Colquitt & Ella Marston, West Kirby SC) 6pts; 4. She’s Electric (Octavia & Hugo Owen, West Kirby SC) 11pts.

Wallasey Yacht Club staged their annual Eastham cruise and were joined by yachts from Hoylake Sailing Club.

This weekend events at West Kirby include a Falcon team race between West Kirby and Hoylake and Open meetings for the Star and Hilbre classes.
