Motorists driving through Heswall are being warned to watch their speed or risk being caught out by local people who want to keep their streets safe.
Community Speed Watch is a scheme run by Police support officers and community volunteers tackling areas where the dangers of careless driving and speeding is a real concern to local people.
The chosen sites are risk -assessed and the CSOs and volunteers are given support and training to set up their own Speed Watch scheme.
Residents have been trained to use speed detectors, which capture the registration number of vehicles driving over the limit.
The logs are then passed onto the police who send out warning letters drivers explaining the dangers of speeding and the problems it can cause to people living in the area.
If drivers ignore the warnings, police say further action may be taken.
Support officer Phil Roberts said: "Often, motorists who speed through residential neighbourhoods are unaware of the impact their actions have on other road users or of the danger they cause.
"Community Speed Watch enables local people to get actively involved in road safety and helps to prompt drivers and motorcyclists to concentrate more carefully on their driving, think about the road and weather conditions and keep within the speed limits."
