I MUST agree wholeheartedly with the feelings of your Mailbox correspondent George Skelly regarding the opposition of the opening of a wine bar in Liscard by our local Conservative councillors.
I must first point out they are not Labour councillors as stated in your letter but an easy mistake to make given their opposition to entrepreneurism.
I cannot believe they would sooner see yet another empty commercial premises in Liscard, maybe they would sooner see it used as a charity shop, they seem plentiful in Liscard.
Maybe another pawnbrokers, I can't help but notice a third has just opened, perhaps a takeaway, how about another discount store?
The premises in question was a bar before it went on to become a restaurant, again this held a drinks license.
I really don't see the need for the opposition, it is a commercial area which already has licensed premises operating nearby.
No wonder businesses are being driven away from the area if they cannot rely on the support of the local councillors when they are willing to invest in Liscard, we have just seen JJB close, yet another big retailer pull out of the town, if something isn't done soon this place will become a ghost town.
I am appalled at the attitude of the councillors in question and feel that if they cannot support businesses then I as a local businessman myself cannot support them.
