MOTORISTS in Wirral are in for months of disruption as not one, not two, not even three - but FOUR trunk roads undergo major work.
Among work being carried out is replacement of water pipes by United Utilities betwen Meols and Moreton where temporary traffic lights are causing long delays. This is set to continue until August.
The strengthening of Bidston Moss viaduct on the M53 was announced on Wednesday which will cause lane closures and contraflows from next week and is scheduled to last until next Spring.
From next Monday, May 23, carriageways of Bidston bypass at Hoylake Road will be closed for re-surfacing.
And building work at Reeds Lane for the new Aldi store in Hoylake Road continues with traffic lights and lane restrictions leading to long tailbacks, especially during peak times.
Councillor Leslie Rennie, Wirral cabinet member for Streetscene and transport services, said: “I do appreciate the concerns expressed by drivers but we ask our contractors to be as speedy as they can.
"We have had to make plans for resurfacing on the bypass after the hard winter we had which created numerous potholes.
"It may feel like everything is getting done at the same time but the improvements are necessary and will be worth it in the long-term.”
