A FAREWELL evening will be held at Cole Street Primary School in Birkenhead on Tuesday, June 7.
Ex-pupils, staff and school supporters are invited to attend for a final look round the premises in Alvanley Place, which will close for good at the end of the current term.
The closure decision was taken by Wirral Council’s cabinet in November, after considering a report from the director of children’s services, David Armstrong. Falling pupil numbers are behind the decision.
According to Mr Armstrong’s report, the number of pupils had fallen to 113 and the school is now 50% empty.
It also found that nearby Cathcart Street Primary was large enough to accommodate the pupils from both schools without the need for additional classroom provision.
The school will close its doors on August 31.
The open event on June 7, which runs from 3pm-7pm, will be a chance to meet old friends and colleagues, share memories and ‘experience the playground on the roof.
For further information ring the school on 0151 652 4280.
