ENTRIES are now being taken for this year's Hoylake 10K Coastal fun run.

The event on Sunday, September 18, starts outside Hoylake Community Centre in Hoyle Road at 11am.

All proceeds will go towards the Wednesday Special Needs Club’s Soft Play Sensory Resource, which is based in Hoylake Community Centre. Last year’s race raised more than £6,000.

Runners will follow a course along the promenade, dropping off the Meols embankment for a short distance, through the car park by Leasowe Lighthouse and back onto the embankment towards Leasowe Castle Hotel. At the 5k marker, runners return back along the same route.

Wirral West MP Esther MP put the 641 entrants under starters' orders for last year’s event, which raised more than £6000.

Looking forward to the race, which is now in its 18th year, race secretary Carla Williams told the Globe: "Everyone who takes part is running for a very good cause, so we hope as many people as possible will sign up to help us reach this year's target of 600 participants.

"All the funds raised from the run as in previous years goes towards the Soft Play Sensory Resource at Hoylake Community Centre "If there's anybody out there who can help with us with the sponsorship of t-shirts that would be great as it would help us raise more money."

First man past the post last year was Cedric Schramm, from French running club Can Sarreguemines, who crossed the line in 34 minutes, 55 seconds. First woman over the line was inner Ellen Darroch, who finished the race in 41.50.

Looking back, Carla said: "On the day it was very windy but the feedback from many of the runners was that the atmosphere and organisation was fantastic.

"I would like to say a Massive thank you to all the volunteers and friends of the Wednesday Special Needs Club who helped make the day so successful."
