FLORAL tributes have been laid in memory of a man who was stabbed to death in Wirral yesterday.
Peter Caine died on Thursday morning after being stabbed during an incident in Market Street, Birkenhead.
A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.
Among the tributes at the scene today was a message that read: "You worked so hard to improve your life and volunteered to help so many people.
"You touched so many people in a positive way. I am so sad and upset.
"Miss you so much."
Originally from Cumbria, Mr Caine, aged 27, had lived in Birkenhead for many years.
Earlier today colleagues at Wirral Council for Voluntary Service in Birkenhead, where he had worked as a volunteer for five years, paid tribute.
Adam Woodcock, development and funding officer for Wirral CVS, told the Globe: "Peter lifted the atmosphere of the place.
"He was somebody dedicated to the volunteer role and was in the process of trying to gain his 100-hour volunteer certificate.
"He always put a smile on the faces of his colleagues.
"He'd been through a lot of difficult challenges in his life, but had turned things around and was improving his chances.
"He was looking for any job that he could get and was making real efforts to get into the world of work.
"He was a unique character, well-liked by all the staff will be very much missed."
