A MAN who died after he was stabbed in Birkehead in the early hours of Thursday morning has been named as Peter Caine.

Police said Mr Caine, 27, was originally from Cumbria but had been living in Birkenhead for "a considerable number" of years.

A post mortem concluded that he died as a result of a stab wound to the chest following the incident in Market Street.

A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody where he is being spoken to by detectives.

The victim's next of kin have been traced and informed of the death.
