A LITTLE girl from Wirral who suffers from Rett Syndrome has seen her life improve 'dramatically' after a charity bought her a state-of-the-art wheelchair.

Nicoll Baker, from Eastham, said she could not thank The Round Table enough for funding a £1300 wheelchair for her 10-year-old daughter Aleksandria.

The generous gift came after Aleksandria's grandmother contacted the charity to ask about the possibility of helping towards the costs of a smoother ride for the youngster.

But they were stunned when the entire bill was footed by the organisation.

The new wheelchair enables the family to take Aleksandria on long walks without worrying about the sturdiness of the chair.

The ‘Convaid Cruiser’ also accommodates her feeding tube and features a reclining seat and sun canopy.

Nicoll, 31, said her daughter, who attends The Lyndale School, is thrilled with her new wheels and is much more comfortable.

She said: "Aleksandria’s condition means she cannot talk and can walk very short distances.

"She needs 24-hour care and spends a lot of time in her wheelchair. We like to all go on walks together but her old chair was quite rickety and you could tell she wasn't comfortable.

"Now we can take the new one anywhere. We’ve been going to the beach while the weather's been nice and we don’t have to worry about where we go anymore.

"It really is amazing how much the wheelchair has improved her life already."

Rett Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder which affects mainly females.

Although present at birth, it often remains undetected until the child is around one-year-old when they regress and lose acquired skills.

Nicoll added: "We are so grateful to The Round Table for buying Aleksandria her new chair. She absolutely loves it!"
