TRANMERE Rovers' rollercoaster season ended with disappointment of a home defeat but also relief that at least the team survived in Division One.

Rovers ended their season's campaign going down 2-0 at the hands of Swindon Town.

It was not the result manager Les Parry had wanted - he had hoped to make it three wins from the final three games of the season.

The result meant Rovers finished in 18th place with 56 points.

Reflecting on the game a disappointed Les Parry said: "The bottom line is we weren’t at the races.

"But I think we can take positives from the last couple of months and kick forward next season.

"It was no different to the first game of the season or the middle game of the season. It was a game of football and we should have gone out and won.

"We prepared exactly the same as we always do, but it’s not the first time a manager has been sat in my position after the final game of the season and it won't be the last."

Parry had played an unchanged team following their 3-0 defeat of Leyton Orient on April 30. Striker Adam McGurk took the central atttacking position.

After an impressive opening from Rovers, with two shots from striker Dale in the opening seconds, the visitors took the lead ten minutes into the game.

Rovers failed to clear a corner and the ball dropped to Swindon’s Jean-Francois Lescinel, who smashed the ball in from inside the six yard box. Team-mate Michael Tim scored the winning goal less than half-an-hour later.

They almost clawed a goal back in the second-half, when Aaron Cresswell drilled free kick against the far post. The ball bounced into the path of Lucas Akins and his header went wide of the target.

Parry continued: "There were a few little turning points. Dale (Jennings) had a tap in that he missed and Cresser has hit the post at the beginning of the second half. Had we taken those chances the outcome of the game would have been different."

The club will be holding a press conference on Wednesday when Les will reflect on the trials and tribulations of this season and give his predictions for the next.

It is also hoped some light will be shed on the continuing "takeover" saga of American investment company Club 9 Sports, which announced earlier this year that it was in negotiations with TRFC.

A fortnight ago, a Club 9 facebook message said the deal, whatever it may entail, could be settled "within days". Since then there has been no further communication about the issue from either Rovers or Club 9.
