Wirral voters delivered a resounding NO to changing the way MPs are elected.
The local results from Thursday's Alternative Vote referendum show 71% voted against change from a turnout of 73,000 people - 41% of the electorate.
The figures reflect the national picture where all but a handful of areas voted against change.
Senior political figures on the No campaign said the scale of the victory meant it was not simply a vote against AV but a firm endorsement by the public of the first-past-the-post system.
