IN the qualifying round first leg of the Roberts Moore Nicholas Jones Cup, Seven Stiles Youth gave Clipper a severe footballing lesson, winning 11-0. Young guns Dereck Dobbs and Dave Gates grabbed four each, followed by efforts from Tommy Burns, 2, and Philip Woods.
Another big name to suffer at the hands of lower division teams was Railway Tavern (1-3 to Third Division F2, for whom Steve Duckers, Mark Colinwood and Stuart Pollock netted).
Overchurch Hotel (Craig Cartwright, Keith Warton) battled out a 2-2 draw with Great Eastern (Jamie Hartley, 2). St Joseph's made good progress with a 9-1 victory, Chris Ingram scoring five. Graham Davies, 2, Peter Murphy and Bob Little were also on target.
AC Brookley still have everything to play for, being narrowly beaten 5-4 by The Clarence, who had Mickey Scorer, 2, Stuart O'Garge, Dave Molly and Brian Laylock on target. John Raven scored all four AC Brookley goals.
Third Division teams Parkfield BA Reserves and FC Willows fought out an epic 4-4 draw to set up a titanic clash next week. Neil Elkerton, Ryan Elkerton and Matthew Armitage scored for FC Willows, with Simon Kelly, Paul Malone and Daniel Mooney among Parkfield's scorers.
Seven Stiles maintained their lead at the top of Division One with a magical display against Royal Liver and look unbeatable after a 12-0 victory. Ian Dobbs, Les 'left back' Jones and Patrick Croft fired hat-tricks and there were further strikes from Paul 'old timer' Dobbs, Mark Powell and Richie McGinn.
Abbotsford maintained their push for the top with an 8-4 victory over top guns Old Bank. Robbie Jones fired a hat-trick, assisted by Richie Owen, 2, Barry Elliot and Brian Hupe.
Talk about luck or lack of it, Nue Ave were leading mighty Houlihans 2-1 with 15 minutes to go, then the game was abandoned due to the referee being injured!
