CALDY sit at the top of North West League Division Two after a 23-17 victory over Merseyside Police. Simon Jones, Richard Farrall and Ian Young went over, while Ian Cropper played a key role with a penalty, conversion and a drop goal.
Wirral saw off Warrington 28-5 in South Lancashire/Cheshire League Division One. There was a penalty try plus touch downs for Martin Clare and Mike Hazelwood. Simon Hignett managed a trio of penalties and a conversion. Clare also goaled once.
Anselmians drew 15-15 at Southport, but in Division Two there were defeats for Parkonians (0-25 at Congleton) and Wallasey (13-30) at home to St Mary's. Neil Frances gained the Wallasey try and Kevin Parker converted and also landed a brace of penalties. Hoylake went under 10-15 against Helsby in Division Three, Rob Hibbs touching down and Andy Cotgrave getting a penalty and a conversion. Port Sunlight found leaders Shell Stanlow too strong and lost 20-52. Peter Jones and Robin Ward crossed along with Ross Lewis, who also kicked a conversion and a penalty. Prenton made a successful trip to the Isle of Man, beating Douglas 44-13.
