PLANS for a housing estate on the site of Withens Lane College go before councillors, on a plans sub committee, this Thursday.
The application is Wirral Met College through Smith and Sons, Birkenhead, and the recommendation is for approval, subject to a S106 agreement regarding open space.
However, objections come from Wallasey Further Education Action Group wanting the site kept as a college. There are petitions, 65 names supporting the college idea and concerned at the loss of a vital community resource. Another 40 names want to see the site used for creatively for Wallasey people while a petition of 61 traders express concern of a significant loss of trade in the Liscard area because of the college closure.
The developers say they will provide open space and children's play equipment, as part of the housing estate, which is expected to exceed 35 nerw dwellings.
