WIRRAL Schools are being challenged to demonstrate how successful and forward-looking they are in their teaching of PE, sport and active recreation.
The challenge comes from the National Playing Fields Association, which is launching the North-West Schools Sports Awards Scheme this month, sponsored by BNFL and the Garfield Weston Foundation.
To take part in the scheme, teachers and pupils co-operate in preparing a presentation, which can either be written or on audio or video cassette, or a mixture of all three. The idea is to explain how sport and active leisure are encouraged in their school.
After preliminary judging, four schools will be selected to make a final presentation before a group of judges. Winners will receive a £1,500 prize and a silver trophy.
